MARINA DEL REY, California — One of the most distinctive public libraries in Los Angeles County sits beside a recreational harbor. The Lloyd Taber–Marina del Rey Library, at 4533 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey, CA 90292, maintains a dedicated nautical collection reflecting the harbor community it serves.
The county says the original library was built by the Department of Beaches and Harbors in 1976. A new nautical wing and community room were added in 1999, supported by the Marina Foundation, county officials and local donors. The library later received its current name in recognition of Lloyd Taber, a major donor.
Why the specialty collection matters
Marina del Rey is a harbor community where boating, navigation and waterfront recreation are part of everyday life. A curated nautical collection can be useful to residents and recreational boaters researching maritime subjects, but it does not substitute for official safety or navigation notices. For conditions on the water, users should always consult the responsible harbor and maritime authorities.
Ordinary library services too
The 7,443-square-foot county branch provides computers, wireless printing, a children’s area and access to e-books, audiobooks, digital magazines and other online resources. The county’s current page lists (310) 821-3415 as the branch phone number. Meeting facilities, device lending and other services can have eligibility or availability limits, so visitors should check before making a special trip.
A harbor-area institution with its own identity
Marina del Rey is not an independent incorporated city. The library’s historical connections to county harbor management are another reason local information should identify the responsible agency rather than rely only on a Los Angeles mailing address. The branch’s maritime history is different from issues that would be covered in a general Westside library story.
